CLEAN YOUR EXISTING CARPET OR REPLACE IT?

If you are deciding on whether or not you should clean your existing carpet or have it ripped out and install new flooring, then you've come to the right place.  If your carpet is less than ten years old and you are on a tight budget, then it may be better for you to have your carpet professionally cleaned, then wait a couple of years to when you can better afford to install new carpeting or a new type of flooring.  On the other hand, if your carpeting is more than ten years old and you either are trying to sale your home, or are just plan tired of looking at your existing carpet, then we can help you select the right type of carpet for your home.

Carpet retailers offer a wide range of carpet grades, styles, and textures, as well as a variety of pad materials.  Carpet fibers are available in two classes, natural and synthetic, with wool being the primary natural fiber used in carpet.  Wool is also more commonly used in area rugs than in wall-to-wall carpet.

Synthetic fibers include nylon, polyester, and olefin.  Most wall-to-wall carpet uses synthetic fibers instead of natural fibers as the synthetic are more durable, resilient, maintain their appearance better and probably the most important reason is that synthetic fibers are more stain resistant.

Once you have selected your carpet, you next have to choose the right padding.  Carpet padding increases the durability of the carpet.  The best padding isn’t the thickest nor is it the most cushioned or the most expensive.  Selecting a padding that is thin and dense is often the best choice because it provides the optimal combination of firmness, support, and cushioning.  However, different types of carpet require different types of padding.  Most carpet retailers and manufacturers provide padding specifications which when ignored can void the carpet warranty.  For this reason, make sure you select padding that meets your carpet's manufacturer’s specifications.

Now that you've installed your carpet, you need to maintain it properly so that it will look great for years to come.  There are several ways to clean a carpet, with every method having its advantages and disadvantages.  However, to keep your carpet clean it should be vacuumed at least once a week and steam or dry-cleaned at least once a year.  Each Carpet Cleaning Service will have their preference for different situations, and will usually tell you that theirs is the only way to clean thoroughly your carpet.  However, before you decide on one professional service over another, you need to check references as well as guarantees.

If you have small children, or pets, then your new carpet is in danger of being damaged.  Pets and children, no matter how well mannered or trained can have accidents.  Children and even adults have been known to spill something on carpet.  As for pets, if their accidents are not caught and taken care of immediately, they can lead to weakness and discoloring of your carpet as well as leaving behind an odor.  However, with proper cleaning you can extend the longevity of your carpet, and keep your home or office stain and odor free.
